Friends reunited dating uk

Following ITV's sale of the site to DC Thomson's Brightsolid subsidiary in 2009, the company relaunched Friends Reunited in March 2012 with a new emphasis on nostalgia and memories.

The website was conceived by Steve and Julie Pankhurst of Barnet, Hertfordshire and friend Jason Porter in 1999.

The first and eponymous website was created by a husband and wife team in the classic back bedroom internet start-up; it was the first online social network to achieve prominence in Britain, and it weathered the dotcom bust.

We were programmers, [but] we always had this entrepreneurial spirit, you know, always coming up with ideas, making stuff for people.

We’d play around with bits and pieces, and it was really the advent of the internet that gave us the chance to try things out.” Steve Pankhurst: “We went freelance in the early 90s, but it was very boring, writing databases for insurance and pensions companies.

Friends Reunited was hugely popular, and profitable – enough to convince ITV to buy it for £120m in 2005.

The newspapers of the time were filled with stories of jilted husbands and wives blaming the site for their divorce, and at its height, in 2007, Friends Reunited claimed 55 per cent of all British adults were members.
